A challenging par 4 to begin your round, considered by many to be the toughest opening hole in the county. The tee shot needs to be well placed to negotiate the fairway which slopes left to right to open up the approach to a raised green. The green is one of the most demanding on the course which gives an early indication of the challenge to come. Most will happily take a 5 here and run to the next tee!

A slight draw from the tee helps hold the left side of the fairway giving the best approach to the green. Avoid missing the green left as this will present a very challenging up and down to save par.

One of only two par 5s on the course, this presents an early birdie opportunity. The drive needs to avoid trees and out of bounds to the right and a gully to the left separating the fairway from the 15th green. The approach is played to a narrow green with sharp run offs either side and out of bounds through the back.

Longer hitters should favour the left side of the fairway with their drive to present the best view of going for the green. Shorter hitters need to avoid the trees on the corner of the dog leg with their lay up.

The first of the par 3s usually requires a mid iron to a deep green so pay attention to the flag position to avoid leaving a long putt. Bunkers and a steep run off to the left will provide a testing par save for anyone missing on this side.

Favour the right side of the green with the tee shot as many balls missing to the right can get a member's bounce from the mounds back onto the putting surface.

A long par 4 which is stroke index 1. The fairway slopes right to left so care needs to be taken with the tee shot to avoid two bunkers on the corner of the dog leg. The approach is played downhill to a green with run offs to the back and to the left.

Challenge the bunkers with your tee shot which will leave an approach of around 200 yards which can be run in to the green. Shorter hitters will need to play to leave themselves a pitch for their approach.

Strong par 4 back up hill requires a tee shot to avoid the copse of trees on the right and the silver birches on the left. Approach is also up hill to a green sloping back to front so selecting the correct club is key.

Drive over the marker post will leave a mid to short iron approach to this tricky green. Avoid going long with the approach especially to a back pin as there is not much joy to be found there.

A down hill par 4 which players shorter than the yardage suggests. A decision to be made off the tee, whether to lay up to the flat part of the fairway leaving an approach of around 200 yards, or drive over the hill to leave a short iron approach. Either way the Great Ponton church on the horizon is the line.

The green is more receptive to a well struck short iron than many believe. Aim to get your approach past the pin to leave an up hill putt.

The longest par 3 on the course requires a well struck tee shot across the Cringle Brook. The pond left and a bunker right await for any errant shot, as does out of bounds in the trees beyond the green.

The bank at the front of the green means the tee shot needs to carry to the green. A steep slope on the left side of the green can feed the ball towards the middle of the green

A short par 4 back over the Cringle Brook requires a positional tee shot to set up a short approach to another tricky green.

Best to avoid the grass bunker visible from the tee as this leaves a blind approach. Avoid going long with your approach as sleepers, the 9th tee and a world of pain beyond await.

A tough par 4 to finish the front nine. For most it requires a tee shot of around 200 yards to the marker post in the fairway. This leaves a mid to short iron approach to a green pitched left to right with a ridge down the middle.

Longer hitters can attempt to drive over the trees and challenge the green or leave a very short approach, however beware of the out of bounds to the right of the green.

A long par 4 to start the back nine, requires a well struck drive ideally up the right of the fairway to give a realistic change of getting home in 2. For many it will require a long iron or wood for the approach which needs to avoid the new bunker on the left.

If you are struggling with your game perhaps a bacon roll at the half way house situated behind the green will help.

A relatively simple short par 4 starts a stretch of 3 holes which provide some good birdie opportunities. A green that can be in range for the longer hitters, for most it will be a drive and a short iron to another sloping green

Avoid the rough between the fairway and the 12th green which could result in a lost ball.

Stroke index 18, but despite the short length this hole will punish the wayward. A well struck iron shot will set up a good birdie chance, but miss the green and you will be left with a challenging up and down.

The front of the green is very narrow and well guarded so the sensible option is to play for the middle of the green regardless of the pin position.

Back over the Cringle brook for the final time, best make the most of this drivable par 4 as tougher challenges lie in wait. A narrow sloping green will test the short game of anyone missing in the wrong place.

Pay attention to the pin position to leave a good angle for your approach if you can't drive the green.

A long par 4 and one of the toughest. Requires a well struck tee shot avoiding the out of bounds to the right. The drive needs to reach the dip to set up the best chance of getting home in 2. The approach can be run in from the left side.

A drive up the left side of the fairway can feed into the bowl to give a shorter approach. Beware of the steep slope to the right of the green which leaves a blind up and down.

Another strong par 4 which requires a straight shot to avoid the trees on the left and the out of bounds to the right. Approach plays up hill to a deep green that is pitched back to front making club selection vital to avoid a challenging two putt.

Longer hitters may run out of fairway leaving a blind pitch to an elevated green so consider club selection from the tee.

The final par 5 requires a blind tee shot over the marker post to a wide fairway. Try not to be distracted by the view of Stoke Rochford Hall from the tee box.

In range for the longer hitters, the approach will feed in from the right. If laying up take note of the ridge running down the middle of the fairway to avoid a blind approach.

For many the signature hole with the magnificent Stoke Rochford Hall as the back drop to this final par 3. Playing slightly down hill this typically requires a well struck mid iron to avoid the bunker guarding the front left

Aim to be past the pin with your approach to avoid a challenging down hill putt.

A good par 4 to finish requiring a drive over 250 yards to set up a view of the green set below you. Shorter hitters will be left with a blind approach played towards the marker pole behind the green.

Practice ground to the right of the fairway is out of bounds but only in range for the longer hitters from the tee. Pay attention to club selection for the downhill approach.
